How long have you lived in your ward? In Burlington? In Vermont? I was born and mostly raised in my ward, in a house that was in my family for several generations. I've also lived in other cities around the country, but have always considered Burlington home. I've most recently been in Vermont for the last 15 years, after completing graduate studies in Boston, and I've been at my current home on Latham Court since 2008.
What issues in Burlington don't get enough attention from city government, in your opinion?
Where should the city cut back on spending, if at all?
Vermont Library Association's government relations committee. I co founded Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom, a local nonprofit, and have served on boards of other organizations such as Vermont Community Access Media, Cradle to Grave Arts, and more. I've volunteered with local political campaigns, for both Democrats and Progressives, and currently serve as the Vice Chair of the Vermont Progressive Party and Chair of Chittenden County Progressives.
I believe Burlington should be working far more pro actively on issues of sustainability and climate change mitigation. This is the greatest challenge of our time and our actions will make the difference between leaving an inhabitable planet for our children, or not. We should be looking at every potential solution, including consolidating trash pick up, improving recycling options, looking for ecologically sound approaches to waste management, and divesting city resources from the unsustainable fossil fuel industry.
How many City Council meetings have you attended in the last six months? What impressed you about those meetings? What concerned you?

active discussion. I'm impressed by the commitment that this essentially volunteer body brings to their work and by what seems like an increased willingness to collaborate across party lines. the last forum on F 35 basing), where I thought particular points of view were unnecessarily favored.
Is there a particular issue that inspired you to run for office this year?
I'm eager to work Hogan Shoes For Sale on issues of public safety and quality of life. It's been really eye opening to get out and talk to my neighbors, street by street, and hear their concerns about everything from improving pedestrian and biker safety, to decreasing break ins, to mitigating residential parking challenges. I intend to be an active liaison between my constituents, city departments such as Code Enforcement and Public Works, the Burlington and UVM police, and institutions such as UVM and Fletcher Allen.
I'm eager to dig deeper on Burlington's alignment of budget with strategic priorities. I support the proposed general tax increase, but question how the 10 new positions it will create were prioritized. The city currently approaches all its sustainability initiatives with only one full time staff person (partly on grant funding), even as we're creating new positions for marketing and IT support. Having a seat at the table means I'll be able to ask tough questions about where we're investing.

The million dollar question! We need to tackle this complex issue from all directions. I will work to ensure an increase in student housing that mitigates neighborhood impacts. A serious commitment to solving the housing crisis must be reflected in the city's upcoming memorandum of understanding with UVM. I will help the city utilize existing resources to increase quality of life patrols by the Burlington Police Department and work with Code Enforcement on fully enforcing relevant city ordinances.
